A tattoo with character is more than an image that looks good. It is a project that has meaning for the person wearing it and is designed for the body on which it will be tattooed.
Emotional value can be important, but the story alone is not enough. The idea, composition, smallest important detail, size, placement and style must work together.
The client brings a reason, a subject or an initial idea. My role is to assess what can be developed from it, which elements should be preserved, what needs to be simplified and how the project should be adapted to the anatomy.
The smallest important detail that must remain readable determines the minimum size. Size then affects placement and the flow of the composition. A project therefore cannot be defined properly only by an image found online or by a size chosen in advance.
A custom project is not a copy of someone else’s tattoo or a ready-made design adjusted at the last moment. It is developed for a specific person, idea and body area, while the style is chosen according to the needs of the project.
Sometimes this means keeping the initial idea almost unchanged. At other times, the composition, size or placement needs to change so that the tattoo remains readable and visually coherent in the long term.
Individual tattoo consultations are used to clarify the idea, expectations and feasibility before tattooing. They can reduce the risk of a poor decision and help define a stronger project, but they cannot honestly guarantee that a person will never change their mind or regret a tattoo.
The decision remains a shared responsibility: the client must be certain that they want to be tattooed, and I must assess whether I can develop and execute the project properly.
This approach suits a person who wants an original project, is willing to discuss size, placement and feasibility, and does not expect every initial idea to be transferred to the skin without professional assessment.
