Jewelry for a fresh piercing is not selected by appearance alone.<\/strong> Healing is affected by a verifiable material specification, suitable shape and size, surface finish, closure system and the ability to sterilize the piece correctly. Anita selects initial jewelry according to the piercing, anatomy and expected swelling.<\/p>\n

Initial jewelry must suit the piercing<\/h2>\n

The same piece is not suitable for every placement or every person. Length, diameter, gauge and shape must allow for initial swelling without creating unnecessary movement or snagging. Jewelry that is too tight can press or embed, while a piece that is too long or poorly shaped can move and catch more often.<\/p>\n

Material is more than a name<\/h2>\n

Labels such as \u201ctitanium\u201d, \u201csurgical steel\u201d or \u201cBioplast\u201d do not prove quality on their own. The exact grade or standard, product origin, surface finish and intended use all matter. Two pieces sold under the same general material name can differ substantially in composition and manufacturing quality.<\/p>\n

Implant-grade titanium<\/h2>\n

Initial jewelry should use verified titanium suitable for long-term contact with the body. Common appropriate specifications include Ti6Al4V ELI compliant with ASTM F136 or ISO 5832-3, and commercially pure titanium compliant with ASTM F67. Titanium is lightweight, corrosion resistant and does not use nickel as an alloying component, so it is often suitable when nickel sensitivity is a concern.<\/p>\n

A titanium colour or marketing label is not enough. The material specification, manufacturing quality and smooth surface without scratches or sharp edges must also be verified.<\/p>\n

Implant-grade steel<\/h2>\n

\u201cSurgical steel\u201d covers several alloys, and not every one is suitable for a fresh piercing. Piercing jewelry requires a verifiable grade, such as steel compliant with ASTM F138 or ISO 5832-1. These alloys contain nickel, so selection depends on the person\u2019s sensitivity, placement and Anita\u2019s assessment.<\/p>\n

A 316L label without supporting documentation is not the same as confirmed implant-grade material. A general material name does not replace the actual product specification.<\/p>\n

Bioplast and other polymer jewelry<\/h2>\n

Bioplast and other flexible polymer materials can have a specific role depending on the piercing, stage of healing and the exact product. Flexibility alone does not make every polymer piece automatically suitable, hypoallergenic or the best choice for an initial piercing.<\/p>\n

The specific product must be intended for body jewelry, capable of being prepared and sterilized according to its manufacturer\u2019s instructions and considered appropriate by Anita for that piercing. Do not choose replacement polymer jewelry from the material name alone.<\/p>\n

Surface finish, threading and shape<\/h2>\n

The surface passing through tissue must be smooth, highly polished and free from scratches, burrs or manufacturing residue. With threaded jewelry, internally threaded construction keeps the rough thread from passing through a fresh channel. A threadless system also provides a smooth post without external threading.<\/p>\n

The shape must suit the anatomy and placement. A straight or curved barbell, labret, ring or another form cannot be substituted only because a different shape looks better.<\/p>\n

Jewelry dimensions are part of safety<\/h2>\n

Jewelry dimensions include gauge, length or diameter and the size of the ends. An initial piece often needs room for swelling, while a shorter or differently fitted piece may be needed after swelling settles. Do not make that change by yourself while the piercing is healing.<\/p>\n

Jewelry that presses, embeds, moves toward the surface, becomes visible through the skin or repeatedly catches should be checked promptly.<\/p>\n

When jewelry should be changed<\/h2>\n

Jewelry should not be changed only because a certain number of weeks has passed. The outside can look settled before the channel is stable enough for a safe change. Timing depends on placement, anatomy, healing progress and the condition of the jewelry.<\/p>\n
